WHO WE ARE
Mission
Cascade Locks Park Association preserves, protects, and promotes the industrial, commercial, and cultural heritage of the Mustill Store Museum and Cascade Locks Park along locks 10-16 of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail.
Action
Founded in 1989, Cascade Locks Park Association (CLPA) served as a key player in the designation of the regional Ohio & Erie National Heritage Canalway with the intent to connect downtown Akron to a network of open spaces and trails. In order to realize its mission and partner in Akron’s revitalization, CLPA first brought together the City of Akron, Summit Metro Parks, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, and other community partners to restore Fred and Emma Mustill’s canal-era home and market. Throughout the decades and involving a lot of hard work and resources, these spaces transformed into a functioning museum, a framework for recreation and entertainment, and a place to celebrate Akron’s canal and cultural history through pubic art and performance. Today, CLPA carries on the tradition of bringing neighbors, nonprofits, government agencies, businesses, and community together, to further bolster the Cascade Valley neighborhood and drive connectivity between downtown Akron and her natural gateway to the north.
