“Canal Towpath, North of the Cuyahoga
Valley National Park; Past to Present”
Spring Speaker Series
Wednesday, May 14, 7:00pm, Mustill Store
Larry Turner, who worked for the National Park and
helped build the Towpath Trail from Boston Mills
to Akron, will present a slide show and talk on the
canal from Lock 44 in the Flats, to the Nat’l Park.
Lecture and refreshments, free and open to public.
Crooked River Day, Guided Hike
May 17, 10am Mustill Store
Come Celebrate the River! Bruce Norton will lead
us on a two hour guided hike, from the Mustill
Store to Memorial Parkway Trailhead, along the
historic Ohio & Erie Canal and the Little Cuyahoga.
Learn the important role the river played in our
early history.
“Summit County Trail and Greenway”
Spring speaker series

Debbie Rolland of the Ohio & Erie Canalway
Coalition will fill us in on what their organization is
up to, and give an update on the status of the
Summit County Trail and Greenway Plan and the
many organizations that are involved in its
development. Lecture and refreshments, free and
open to the public.

Membership Only Event
We want to thank our members for their continued
support and update all on our progress—so please,
join us for an old-fashioned ice cream social,
complete with live music and a display of artifacts
from the Schumacher Cascade Mill Site and Mustill
Store digs, by the Community Archaeology Program
of the Department of Classical Studies, Anthropology
and Archaeology of the University of
Akron. Bring a lawn chair and we’ll order up a
lovely summer evening!

1st & 3rd Saturdays, 2nd and 4th
Sundays, 11:00am at the Mustill Store
We’ve expanded our guided tour schedule to
accommodate those who like to get out on the
Towpath early! Plenty of time afterward to check
out any of the local eateries. Ask the Greeters in
the store for a brochure detailing the local
restaurants.
Hot Jazz on Howard Street“Puttin’ on the Ritz”
CLPA Fundraising Event
Saturday, August 16, 6:00-10:30pm
We are “Puttin’ on the Ritz” with a stellar lineup of
Jazz artists this year! We have Evelyn Wright, a
popular Cleveland vocalist, backed up by Dan
Wilson, Jr. and Jack Schantz, coordinator of Jazz
Studies from U of A. Jazz group, “Fhloism”
will open. Come for dinner and drinks, enjoy the
show, and take a chance at winning a week in
Hilton Head,other
golf packages, or a group train ride on Cuyahoga Valley Scenic
Railroad, complete with food, drinks and a Jazz
trio. Proceeds support our work in the
development of the Cascade Locks Park.
Fall Canal Cleanup
TBA in September
EnviroScience Inc. and CLPA volunteers get
together to clean up the Little Cuyahoga River and
canal on Keep Akron Beautiful Super Saturday. This
is a wonderful way for youth groups to be
introduced to community action and protecting
the environment! If enough people get involved,
we can pull another ton of trash out of the river
and off the Towpath! Call for info or waiver/
permission form. Breakfast items and full lunch
served.
Road Runner Marathon
Saturday, September 27, 8:15-10:30am Mustill Store
Come cheer the runners on from the best location in the city! The Brick Road Ramblers will perform on our porch and there will be steaming hot coffee and other yummy breakfast items available for sale in the store.

Cascade Locks Park Association offers
entertaining and informative programs
designed for any age. Options include a “visit”
with Fred and Emma Mustill, who owned and
operated the store in the mid 1800s, telling
about life during the canal era, and a guided
walk along the canal with one of our experts.
